Overview
My research interest sits at the intersection of human motor control, biomechanics and robotics-mechatronics . I am interested in leverage mechatronics and robotics system to get insights on how the human sensorimotor system plans, acts, adapts, and learn, to then leverage this knowledge for informing the use of technology to optimize the assessment and intervention on movement-related pathologies, such as post-stroke motor impairment. My long-term research goal is to bridge fundamental principles of human movement with the design of controller for assistive and robotic technologies, building systems informed by how humans actually interacts, move, learn, and recover.
I am currenlty a postdoctoral researcher at Northeastern University, working with Prof. Dagmar Sternad on (1) the effect of physical human-human interaction in postural balance control, (2) the evaluation of post-stroke motor impairment in manipulating complex objects, and (3) the assessment of human-robot interaction principles.
I completed my PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and Newcastle University. Where I evaluate how the central nervous system manage physical interactions with other individuals or the environment during motor tasks.
I work with a range of tools including Python, MATLAB, R, and C++, and have hands-on experience with optoelectronic motion capture, OpenSim, and impedance-controlled robotic manipulators.
I borned in Rome, Italy, where I spent most of my life before moving to Newcastle University for my Ph.D.
